Did I mention… I ROCK!

November 3, 2007

Sorry to be away so long.

I was finishing up a novella, which, until someone comes up with a better idea, is called “Master of Penlowen.”

Titles are flexible. I try not to get to attached to them, since the author never gets the final vote. But, by God, I had to name it something. I was calling it “Happy Halloween” until a week before it was done. And now, I’ve started a book that I’ll be calling “Merry Christmas” until I can come up with something better.

Anyway, I finished up the novella a few days before Halloween, and then we had a family emergency, which sent me running up to visit the folks. It took a bite out of my normal Halloween celebrating. So you can expect me to be stretching October into mid-November, since I refuse to move on to Thanksgiving, until I am good and done with haunting.

And, in the midst of it all, Guitar Hero came out for the Wii game system.

#1 Son had been in agony, waiting for this, for weeks. Frankly, I could have cared less. I’ve managed to resist the Wii for almost a year, now. Why should this game be any different?

And then, I picked it up.

You get to play guitar, with a rock band. And when you finish a song, the game says:

YOU ROCK!

Now, I’ve often suspected that I rock. But I’ve never had positive proof. Now, I can definitively say, “I rock!” Especially when playing “Black Sunshine” or “School’s Out”. And I am feeling most cocky, now that I beat Slash from Guns and Roses, in a guitar battle.

Granted, it was on the “Easy” level. I can only use three fingers. He plays like he’s got 6 fingers on each hand. But still…

And I’ve found that it is easier to play the toy guitar if I get up off the couch, tap my feet, and generally dance along with the song. It makes me feel like Joan Jett.

It probably makes me look like the badly animated Josie of the Pussy Cats. If she swapped the leopard print mini-dress for give-up jeans and an endless diet of pizza.

But dammit, I feel like Joan.
And I rock. Totally.
But not in front of witnesses. I am alone during the day. No one has to see me rock.

The kids came home from school, and had to pry the guitar out of my hands. They are stuck somewhere between admiration and mortification.

I told #1 Son that the song I really wanted to play was “My Sharona”.

He asked how it went.

duh duh duh duh DUH duh DUH duh DUH duh…

He said: “When they come out with the game ‘Guitar Wuss'”.

#2 Son watched me play, and said I hold down too many buttons.

I told him that this was because I used to play violin. He plays string bass, the fingerings are different.

He said, “Let’s just agree to disagree… with you.”

    Guitar Hero ROCKS!!!1ONE!

Love that game. Now my boyfriend has acquired an extra guitar, and we can both play. I love to play the bass lines, and the cooperative mode usually lets me play bass. It’s so much fun I think it’s probably illegal. (Especially if I’m singing along.)
